摘 要 |
Underachieving gifted students not only refers to students with low academic achievements, but those who perform well academically but poor in interpersonal relationships. The author categorized underachieving gifted students into four types: overpressured, underworking, low motivation and non-productive. These students generally show three psychological and behavioral characteristics: low self-perception, academic avoidance and mal-adaptation to learning habits and the society. Gifted students' underachievement could be ascribed to both internal and external factors. Internal factors refer to personal problems, while external factors could be related to families or parents, schools, the society and peers. Teachers' counseling strategies differ depending on the category the student falls in and which factors determine his/ her underachievement. |
