Back in 1971 when the Department of Education launched the first special education program‚ Keelung set up special education classes for the mentally challenged. Gifted education in this area‚ on the other hand‚ started four years ago as a program for students with special talents‚ and in this case‚ for those with artistic talents. It was the only academic-oriented gifted program in Keelung. The author suggests in the paper that more communication and promotion are needed for future implementation of gifted education‚ for misconceptions and false expectations may occur due to the lack of understanding of gifted education. |
