This article introduces "The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy." Founded on September 7th‚ 1986‚ this 3-year residential institute aims to educating 210 most gifted senior high school students of the state. This article introduces its 1) main tasks 2) sources and selection criteria of students 3) features 4) curriculum 5) teaching methods. The author indicated at the end that gifted education in elementary school and junior high school stage should focus on discovery and enlightenment‚ while in university research should be the focus. By contrast‚ gifted education in high school should emphasize the process of "molding‚" which makes special programs even more important. But unfortunately our country does not yet form a comprehensive program for high school gifted education. The author hopes that by introducing this program‚ high school gifted education programs can be institutionalized in the future. |
