摘 要 |
Special interpersonal relationships are tied closely with the development of gifted students. For 22 years‚ Torrance studied the relationship between the achievement of gifted students and mentors‚ and found a close connection between the two. Other researches also point to the significant role mentors play in the creativity and career development of the gifted. Torrence listed the functions mentors serve as follows: 1) provide a shelter with high creativity for students; 2) sponsor gifted students; 3) assist gifted students in understanding their diverse thinking ability; 4) help the gifted students express and convey their ideals; 5) have their creativity be identified; 6) assist their families and others in understanding them. However‚ mentorship may terminate due to several reasons. Mentors and gifted students should therefore establish mutual trust to avoid impractical expectations and to understand barriers that they would often come across while developing and maintaining mentorship. The authors proposed the following steps for mentorship 1) promote the correct notion; 2) adopt strategies suitable for both the mentors and the gifted; 3) teaching training; 4) implementation; 5) assessment. Other things to take heed to include administrative assistance‚ practical expectations‚ identify and include gifted students with disabilities and those from low-income families. |
